Picnic Bags

A picnic bag is very practical, considering all the items that can be brought along for an intimate outdoor meal. Though woven baskets used for decades are attractive, they do little to help keep things cold and do not provide separate storage areas for various foods and utensils.

These increasingly popular products are better than a basket for several reasons. They are lightweight, so salads, sandwiches, hot casseroles and all the eating or serving utensils you need can go with you to the park. Most are made of a sturdy canvas or nylon, which is still much lighter than woven products.

Having separate compartments is a great feature. You no longer have to worry about whether or not the pie or cake will be smashed when you get to the desired location, like you would if a woven basket was used, which provided no means of keeping the forks from poking into the apple pie or favorite carrot cake. Today's products often come with slots or pouches for different items, such as cutlery, silverware, cork screws, bottle openers, knives and serving spoons.

Many of the items available are also insulated. This means you can keep drinks cool and your fried chicken can still be warm when you are ready for lunch or dinner. Because items have their own spaces, you will not have to search for items you need. There are different configurations of these products, depending on what you need them for and how much you plan to take with you. Some items are designed for a romantic wine and cheese snack. They will have less room for food and special storage slots for wine glasses, wine and corkscrew.

Other products are made for taking several dishes. Rubbermaid makes a product in an attractive and sporty striped vinyl material. It is waterproof and comes with a thermal removable liner, which can later be washed if needed. This item is a great value at around $25. Products made for specialty dining or snack can cost quite a bit more, but can also be made of an attractive woven canvas with coordinating trim, which sets the mood for an elegant outdoor feast.

All in all bringing a picnic bag along with you the next time you go for an outdoor outing just makes sense. With all the different styles of bags these days, you are surely able to find the one that is right for you.

The last time we went for an outdoor adventure we brought our picnic bags along with us. We had to make sure our food stayed at a cool temperature to keep it safe. In our other bag was all of our beverages. We had to make sure they stayed cool.

Another thing that we brought along was our jansport mini backpack. It worked great because it didn't weigh me down with the short walk, but it was big enough to hold everything I needed.
